Bilateral economic relations

In January-May 2024, the Slovak Republic ranked 22nd among Moldova's global trading partners, with a share of 0.8% of total trade value. The value of Moldova's foreign trade with the Slovak Republic in January-May 2024 amounted to 41.5 mln USD. Compared to the same period of 2023, the value of bilateral trade increased by 2.1%, due to the increase in the export of Moldovan goods on the Slovak market (by 26.5%).

In 2023, the Slovak Republic ranked 23rd among Moldova's trading partners in the world, with a share of 0.76% in the value of total trade. The value of Moldova's foreign trade with the Slovak Republic amounted to 96.4 mln USD. Compared to 2021, the value of bilateral trade increased by 46.4%.

According to the official data (Public Services Agency), there are about 21 enterprises with Slovak capital operating in the Republic of Moldova, with investments in the share capital amounting to 7.8 mln MDL. According to the amount of invested capital, the Slovak Republic ranks 38th among the main investors in the Republic of Moldova.

Development Assistance

The Republic of Moldova has been a SlovakAid partner country since 2009, and since 2014, it is among the priority countries of the SlovakAid program. Development cooperation with the Republic of Moldova is regulated by the Bilateral Agreement on Development Cooperation between the Government of the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Moldova, signed in October 2013. The objectives of development cooperation are defined in accordance with the "Medium-term Strategy for Development Cooperation of the Slovak Republic for 2019 - 2023", extended until 2024, as well as in accordance with the "Strategy for Development Cooperation with the Republic of Moldova for 2021-2023", extended until 2024. The total amount of the Slovak Republic's development assistance to the Republic of Moldova in 2014 - 2023 is approx. 10 mln EUR.

Sectoral priorities for assistance: 1) Good governance and strengthening civil society; 2) Infrastructure and sustainable use of natural resources (water and sanitation, waste management and forestry); 3) Supporting the creation of market conditions - improving the business sector, supporting the introduction of innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises and promoting sustainable employment. Slovakia supports Moldova’s trans­formation efforts and its economic growth, as well as provides assistance in implementing reforms.
